Our General English Course plus tennis lessons at ELC Eastbourne

Located in the same town as the annual ATP and WTA Rothesay Eastbourne International Tennis Tournament, ELC Eastbourne offers a great combined programme of General English and tennis lessons for international students.

* Minimum age: please see more information regarding levels of care and supervision for 16 and 17 year olds in international classes. We occasionally accept 15 year olds in international classes provided they are part of a group with a group leader.

In the mornings you study on the core programme of the General English course in a multinational class at your level for 20 lessons (15 hours) per week.

For 3 afternoons each week you will have tennis lessons, led by an expert tennis coach who will help you raise your tennis skills to the next level.

The tennis lessons will also help you practise your English further. Some key features of the tennis option are:

  • maximum 4 per group for tennis coaching lessons
  • lessons take place at an indoor tennis centre in Eastbourne
  • all coaches are qualified (LTA level 3 and above)
  • each tennis lesson lasts one hour
  • more lessons available at extra cost
  • transport to and from the tennis centre included
  • minimum stay normally 2 weeks.

General English courses typically require CEFR levels A1 to C1+ to participate.

I’m a very good tennis player. Is this course suitable for me?

Yes. We have had players of all levels.

How do I get to the tennis club? How far from the school is it?

We organise taxis for you, this is included in the course fee. The centre is outside the centre of Eastbourne, approximately 10-15 minutes away.

How many sports lessons does the course include?

You will have three sports lessons per week.

Our language learning levels relate closely to how the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) define them, but with a difference which we have found to help our students at Elementary level.

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.

But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
