Our General English Course Plus Golf Lessons at ELC Eastbourne
ELC Eastbourne’s General English plus golf combined programme is designed to help you develop your overall level of English whilst also practising a practical skill.

* Minimum age: please see more information regarding levels of care and supervision for 16 and 17 year olds in international classes. We occasionally accept 15 year olds in international classes provided they are part of a group with a group leader.
In the mornings you study on the core programme of the General English course in a multinational class at your level, for 20 lessons (15 hours) per week, with classes focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing, and also touching on essential grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms and colloquial language.
For three afternoons per week you then have golf lessons, led by a PGA qualified golf coach at Eastbourne Golfing Park in nearby Lottbridge Golf Club.
The golf lessons will also help you practise your English further. Some key features of the golf option are:
- maximum of four per group for the golf lessons
- each lesson lasts 1 hour
- fee includes hire of clubs and green fees
- transport to and from the golfing park is included
- minimum stay normally 2 weeks
- golf option guaranteed to run with a minimum of 1 participant.

Course features
- Before arriving, you do an online test so your class is at the right level for you.
- We conduct regular progress checks and set homework every day.
- You’ll be in a multi-national group for your English classes.
- Regular individual tutorials with your teacher for private help and study advice.
- All course books and materials are included.
- At least one lesson a week in the computer laboratory.
- You can use the self-access study centre after lessons to practise and improve.
- End of course certificate with hours of study and final level.
- Activities on 3 afternoons per week with a qualified trainer/coach are included.
- Taxis to and from school to the activity location are included where required.

ELC Eastbourne’s General English course plus golf lessons is perfect for students who wish to combine intensive class-based learning with a practical, healthy, outdoors activity where you will have further opportunity to practise your English language skills.
General English courses typically require CEFR levels A1 to C1+ to participate.

How do I get to the golf club? How far from the school is the golf club?
We organise taxis for you, this is included in the course fee. The centre is outside the centre of Eastbourne, approximately 10-15 minutes by taxi.
I’m a very good golf player. Is this course suitable for me?
Yes. We have had players of all levels.
How many sports lessons does the course include?
You will have three sports lessons per week.
Are your trainers qualified?
Yes, all the sports coaches have professional qualifications.

Do I need a good level of English for this course?
You need to have at least an intermediate (B1) level to understand the coaching.

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.
But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
