Our General English Course Plus Golf Lessons at ELC Eastbourne

ELC Eastbourne’s General English plus golf combined programme is designed to help you develop your overall level of English whilst also practising a practical skill.

* Minimum age: please see more information regarding levels of care and supervision for 16 and 17 year olds in international classes. We occasionally accept 15 year olds in international classes provided they are part of a group with a group leader.

In the mornings you study on the core programme of the General English course in a multinational class at your level, for 20 lessons (15 hours) per week, with classes focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing, and also touching on essential grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms and colloquial language.

For three afternoons per week you then have golf lessons, led by a PGA qualified golf coach at Eastbourne Golfing Park in nearby Lottbridge Golf Club.

The golf lessons will also help you practise your English further. Some key features of the golf option are:

  • maximum of four per group for the golf lessons
  • each lesson lasts 1 hour
  • fee includes hire of clubs and green fees
  • transport to and from the golfing park is included
  • minimum stay normally 2 weeks
  • golf option guaranteed to run with a minimum of 1 participant.

General English courses typically require CEFR levels A1 to C1+ to participate.

How do I get to the golf club? How far from the school is the golf club?

We organise taxis for you, this is included in the course fee. The centre is outside the centre of Eastbourne, approximately 10-15 minutes by taxi.

I’m a very good golf player. Is this course suitable for me?

Yes. We have had players of all levels.

How many sports lessons does the course include?

You will have three sports lessons per week.

Are your trainers qualified?

Yes, all the sports coaches have professional qualifications.

Do I need a good level of English for this course?

You need to have at least an intermediate (B1) level to understand the coaching.

Our language learning levels relate closely to how the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) define them, but with a difference which we have found to help our students at Elementary level.

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.

But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
