Our General English course plus Yoga + Natural Health lessons at ELC Eastbourne

Our practical, enjoyable General English plus yoga + natural health programmes are available all year round, with small, intimate classes and a raft of choices for you.

* Minimum age: please see more information regarding levels of care and supervision for 16 and 17 year olds in international classes. We occasionally accept 15 year olds in international classes provided they are part of a group with a group leader.

In the mornings you study on the core programme of the General English course in a multinational class at your level for 20 lessons (15 hours) per week. Then in the afternoons, evenings or at the weekend, you have 3 yoga sessions and 1 complementary therapy per week.

You can choose from a range of options including the ones below.

Yoga

Yoga brings relaxation to body and mind through gentle postures (asanas), deep breathing (pranayama), and meditation (dhyanna). Yoga can expand physical and mental awareness, build strength and flexibility, and increase energy levels. The Centre offers different strengths and styles of yoga, and their staff will be happy to recommend a suitable class.

Chill out

This is slow and mindful flow to get you ready for the upcoming week. Whatever your age, body shape and experience- you will leave the class stronger, with less tension and a smile. No experience is needed.

Anusarana

This is a dynamic combination of Ashtanga and Hatha alignment. Using Ujjayi breathing and Bandha (body lock) you will be guided into different asanas, achieving core strength for more open and strong postures like arm balance, hip opening, back bending and inversions. Ujjayi breathing is the core of the practice, each asana will be held for 3 breaths, leading to a feeling of energy flowing through your body. At the end of the practice you shall experience a sense of lightness and peace of mind.

Vinyasa flow

Vinyasa Flow Yoga is the harmonisation of breath combined with movement as we flow from one asana to another; suitable for all levels. Students are encouraged to practice at their own pace and be ‘in the moment’. Modifications and variations are offered as well as more challenging asana for those who dare to take themselves to their ‘edge’ and beyond. Classes include pranayama, classical asana and conclude with relaxation.

Restorative/Nidra

Using bolsters, eyes bags and blankets, this supportive class offers gentle soothing postures, meditations and Yoga Nidras for physical and mental restoration. A class suitable for all levels.

Aroma

Exploring ourselves and yoga philosophy together, creating space in the body and mind for emotional healing and spiritual growth. In a safe, soothing and supportive environment, no experience necessary. Gentle movement, relaxation, meditation, breathing practice, chanting and therapeutic grade essential oils to compliment the theme of the class and to aid with relaxation.

Spa therapies

A choice of different style facials, manicures and luxury foot treatments.

Massages

Hot stone, body and de-stress back treatment.

Alternative Therapies

Choose from Turkish salt scrub with eucalyptus, reflexology, Indian head massage and manual lymph drainage.

Who is this General English and natural health course for?

If you are an international student looking to both improve your English language skills and treat yourself to several sessions of enjoyable, stress-relieving yoga or natural health classes, this is the ideal programme for you.

General English courses typically require CEFR levels A1 to C1+ to participate.

Our language learning levels relate closely to how the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) define them, but with a difference which we have found to help our students at Elementary level.

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.

But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
