Our comprehensive General English plus one-to-one course at ELC Brighton is specially designed to provide you with a core understanding of General English, coupled with more intensive, tailored one-to-one lessons with your tutor that will focus on your specific language needs.
This is a combination course to give you a balance of group English learning in the mornings, and individual, private English tuition in the afternoons. In General English group classes, you have less opportunity to ask for certain topics to be covered, whereas private one-to-one lessons are designed to give you space to cover the topics that interest you, or that you need for work or study.
The General English plus one-to-one course at our Brighton school gives you the opportunity to learn General English on our core course in the mornings. During the afternoon you will also receive intensive lessons tailored to your individual learning needs.
* Minimum age: please see more information regarding levels of care and supervision for 16 and 17 year olds in international classes. We occasionally accept 15 year olds in international classes provided they are part of a group with a group leader.
For our core General English course, all students will study in a General English class for 20 lessons per week each morning, Monday to Friday. Your private tuition takes place in the afternoon.
You can choose between:
20 lessons of General English and 5 lessons of private, one-to-one English lessons
20 lessons of General English and 10 lessons of private, one-to-one English lessons

Our General English courses start any Monday and finish any Friday. You can book a minimum of 2 weeks. Please note that the school is open year round except for 2 weeks around the Christmas period – usually the last 2 weeks for the calendar year.
We will ask you to complete a comprehensive pre-course questionnaire where you can tell us which areas you would like to improve and what your goals are. The course is then designed by your trainer to try to address your needs.

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.
But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
This is one of our favourite courses, because it combines the rich interaction of a group of people at the same level of language, with the quieter focus of attention just on you, your needs, your objectives and your areas for improvement in English.
