The 25+ English programme in Chester is designed for working professionals.
This is distinct from our General English course in that the topics of conversation are likely to span both everyday English but also the kind of English you would use in a professional work setting.
Lessons take place in a separate building from the main school in Chester, and there is no upper age limit on this course.
At ELC Chester we offer a broad range of options to make your General English course just right for you. Our experienced, friendly staff provide a comprehensive programme of lessons at our school in Stanley Place, which has been ranked in the top 2% of language schools in the United Kingdom.
Our English classes for 25+ aged adults are designed with working professionals in mind, and cover the themes which are likely to feel relevant to you if you are in this stage of your life. Lessons take place in small groups of just 6 people maximum.
You may need this course directly for your work, or you may wish to build more confidence to communicate with people around the theme of work in semi-professional settings.
There is a choice of intensities and combinations of group and one-to-one lessons. Our regular 25+ course gives you 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week of general English in a small group. You can choose to add 5 individual lessons giving a more intensive 35 lessons (26.25 hours) per week. For a more intensive focus on your personal area of interest, you could choose one of our combination courses with 20 lessons (15 hours) per week in a group and 10 lessons (7.5 hours) or 15 lessons (11.25 hours) of individual lessons.
As with all our programmes, you’ll be able to choose age-appropriate accommodation when you book your course, and we also have a range of social activities and excursions on offer which will show you the very best of what the UK has to offer. Some of the better kept secrets of the north of England, including Manchester, Liverpool, and the beautiful landscapes of North Wales and the Lake District are very close to Chester.
ELC Chester is the only school in the group which offers a 25+ course. You can, of course, opt to be in our regular General English with its 28 lessons (21 hours) per week, where you’ll be in a larger group (maximum 12 students) and a wider range of ages.
If you are looking for a bit of separation from younger students, we achieve that in Chester because you’re actually in a different school building, which is equally lovely, just separate! The 25+ course is also quite naturally going to have different discussion topics which are more appropriate to a more mature group, given that you’ve probably got a bit more life experience than you did 10 years ago.

By the way, you do need to have a good, elementary level of English (A1) to attend this course, so if you consider yourself more or less a beginner, then we’d recommend an individual, one-to-one English course first of all.

The Combination English course for adults is a happy mix of small group classes and one to one instruction, specifically for people aged over 25.
Our language learning levels relate closely to how the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) define them, but with a difference which we have found to help our students at Elementary level.

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.
But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
Here are two further options to consider: our one-to-one course suitable for all ages and/or beginners, and our general English group course which is a good choice if you’re happier in a larger group with a wider age mix.
