The Sport of Kings. The second largest spectator sport in Great Britain. A chance to make a fast buck? As we entered the stands you could see the gleam in their eyes at the prospect of turning a few pounds into a few hundred!
This week we went horse-racing. Brighton Racecourse offered free admission to students for the day, so we thought this was a great opportunity for our students to experience a traditional English sport and get fantastic views over Brighton. The race course is situated on a hill to the east of Brighton and races have been taking place in this location since 1783!
A group of around 15 of our students joined us on a nice sunny day and had a great time at their first race! A member of staff explained to us how it all works and how to place a bet. Some of our students were brave and placed small bets, which always makes a race a little more interesting. And one of our Angolan students was lucky! He backed the right horse and won some money!
Overall it was a very enjoyable afternoon, we were able to see a few races and experience the unique atmosphere of a horse race.
