Our C1 Advanced English Exam Preparation at ELC Eastbourne

Our C1 Advanced English Exam Preparation course provides complete and careful preparation for all aspects of the Cambridge Advanced examination.

* Minimum age: please see more information regarding levels of care and supervision for 16 and 17 year olds in international classes. We occasionally accept 15 year olds in international classes provided they are part of a group with a group leader.

Cambridge English Examination preparation courses at ELC are designed to improve your overall language ability in addition to developing the English language skills you need to pass your C1 Advanced English exam.

The C1 Advanced exam preparation course includes:

  • practice interviews with experienced Cambridge examiners mock examinations under authentic exam conditions
  • regular tutorials with your teacher to give individual help and study advice.

Extended study

  • The 4-week summer preparation course has a different timetable in order to have 120 lessons before the exam on the final Friday of the course.
  • 1 ‘lesson’ = 45 minutes. Lessons are usually combined into larger units of time.

Who is the C1 Advanced English exam preparation course for?

If you are an international student, aged 16 years or over, and you already have a CEFR level between B2 and CEFR C1+, then this might be the ideal course for you.

The Cambridge Advanced exam might be required by your school or university or for a future employer, or you might just wish to take this exam to confirm your advanced level of English.

When are the C1 Advanced exams held?

Final exams are normally held in Eastbourne or Brighton.

Please note that in some cases the written exam is on the Saturday immediately after the course. The oral exam is usually on a Saturday or Sunday during the course. Please contact us for details.

Frequently asked questions

For the Cambridge test, when do we register? Do I have to register at the beginning or can I wait a little while to see how my progress is going?

We book the exam with the test centre in the first weeks of the Cambridge course so you will have plenty of time to see how you are getting on and what is best.

When do the Exam Preparation courses start?

Our Exam preparation courses start on set dates for 4, 10 or 12 weeks. If you are planning to study for longer it is also possible to combine different courses General English and Exam preparation. Please ask for more details.

How far are homestays from the school in Eastbourne?

Most homestays in Eastbourne are in walking distance, maximum 30 minutes. We also have some homestays that are a short bus journey, typically 15-20 minutes.

How much is a taxi from the airport to Eastbourne?

We can organise a taxi for you and the price (2024) is £115 each way for Gatwick and £160 each way for Heathrow.

Is the exam fee included in the course fees?

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.

But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
