English course for engineers in Brighton

Our English for engineers course in Brighton consists of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week, and runs for two weeks with a maximum class size of 8 students.

Each course is designed by the trainer to meet the needs of its participants and is therefore a unique package, targeted to improve your technical and specialist English, and we’ll ask you about your precise objectives, your working context and your organisation before you arrive.

  • Maximum students: 8
  • Minimum age: 21
  • Course duration: 2 weeks
  • CEFR entry level:

There is a focus on using English in your daily work and on communication skills for engineers, for example describing processes and performance, discussing technical drawings, and expressing complex ideas eloquently.

Trainers use presentations, case studies, workshops and role-play simulations, and some sessions may be recorded for detailed analysis and feedback. Participants have free access to our self-study centre outside their lesson times.

By the end of the course you should be able to use English more confidently in your daily work and communicate more effectively in the technical and business areas that we focus on. The course is based on a detailed needs analysis that begins prior to arrival and is reviewed continuously throughout the two weeks.

The content is therefore flexible, but a typical course will include:

  • discussion skills and participating in meetings
  • explaining complex ideas and giving technical instructions
  • making presentations
  • telephoning and emailing
  • technical writing.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • give more effective presentations in English
  • contribute more effectively to meetings held in English
  • use English on the phone with more confidence
  • use English in emails, faxes and letters with style and accuracy
  • have a greater sensitivity to different business cultures
  • deal with clients, customers and colleagues in English more competently and confidently.
