One-to-one English lessons in Brighton

At ELC Brighton we have many years of experience with private tuition, and successfully run weekly courses designed to further improve our students’ skill levels. We offer a broad range of programmes, with between 20 and 40 weekly lessons available to all our students.

Our one-to-one courses are ideal if you wish to add some extra, intensive private tuition to the main course you are taking.

Whatever your needs, the trainer will design the course according to your specific needs based on a detailed needs analysis.

You may want one-to-one lessons to help you:

  • prepare for an important presentation, negotiation or meeting
  • focus on a particular area of vocabulary important for your job
  • prepare for an important exam
  • develop your confidence in communicating in English

If you are studying on a full-time course at ELC such as General English, Executive mini-group or an intensive exam preparation course, you can choose to add a few private lessons in addition to the full-time course in order to focus specifically on your needs. For example, you could choose to take 1 to 5 additional private lessons, either in total or every week.

Who is a one-to-one (1:1) private English course for?

There are many good reasons why a one-to-one individual English course could be a good solution for you. Here are some different examples:

  • You are a complete beginner in English and you need to build up an initial level to be able to participate in group lessons
  • You are at an advanced level, and you don’t feel you need a standard general English class, but rather something very focussed on one particular area of English
  • You’re a company executive with only a limited amount of time, and you want to learn as quickly as possible
  • You prefer having a teacher all to yourself, rather than getting to know lots of other people in a group
  • You really enjoy talking, and you’re less interested in listening to other people speak.

There are many benefits of group lessons too, and it often depends on your learning preferences. Some people learn best by speaking and doing, so the opportunity to speak all the time in a private lesson is appealing!

Others may feel more comfortable and learn more listening to their fellow participants. In a group class, you will also get plenty of opportunity to speak, and a favourite of your teachers at ELC is to get you working in pairs and small groups to discuss, present, debate and collaborate together in English.

What if I want to enrol on a course with a colleague?

If you don’t want to be completely alone during classes, at ELC Brighton we can accommodate you and a colleague - or two! - on one of our courses. We offer two-to-one or even three-to-one options for any colleagues who wish to study together, so you can have a companion with you at all times during your stay with us. Please note: You all need to be at the same level of English for this to work successfully.
