Eastbourne is a lovely, relaxed and easy-going seaside town along the coast from Brighton. The beach and the stunning coastal landscape which surrounds the town lend themselves to a range of fun activities. Eastbourne is officially the sunniest place in the UK, with 1,892 hours of sunshine annually.

ELC Eastbourne is one of the oldest English language schools in the UK, and ranked in the Top 5% of language schools in the UK. It is a medium-sized school with modern facilities, a beautiful garden, and its small, friendly atmosphere creates a welcoming learning environment for students.

General English courses plus activities in Eastbourne

These courses are a combination of classroom tuition and activity lessons, where you will participate in our main General English course in the mornings for 20 lessons per week, where you will cover all the core skills of the English language - speaking, listening, reading and writing, while also covering essential grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, idioms and colloquial language.

Then on three afternoons per week, you’ll have sessions away from school. You can currently choose between watersports, yoga and well-being, golf, tennis and horse riding. Whatever option you choose, you’ll be learning with a qualified specialist to improve your skills in an authentic English environment. We think three afternoons per week is ideal, because it still gives you enough free time to socialise and meet new international friends, but if you would like more coaching, this can be arranged.

  • We conduct regular progress checks and set homework every day.
  • You’ll be in a multi-national group for your English classes.
  • Regular individual tutorials with your teacher for private help and study advice.

  • At least one lesson a week in the computer laboratory.
  • You can use the self-access study centre after lessons to practise and improve.
  • Activities on 3 afternoons per week with a qualified trainer/coach are included.
  • Taxis to and from school to the activity location are included where required.

Our range of English + activity courses in Eastbourne

In the mornings you join our core General English programme in mixed nationality classes at your level for 20 lessons (15 hours) per week. Then for 3 afternoons per week you develop your chosen practical skill.

We offer these options throughout the year and you can start any Monday. All of the afternoon Plus options are run by local coaches and trainers so you will also be able to practise your English with local people. The options are organised so that we can run them with a minimum 1 student and they are therefore guaranteed to run.

Our language learning levels relate closely to how the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) define them, but with a difference which we have found to help our students at Elementary level.

We offer an English level test which anyone can take. It involves 50 questions and, depending on your level, will probably take you from 10 to 20 minutes. At the end of it, we will tell you your probable level.

But when you book, we will ask you to take a more detailed and accurate test, to make sure that you start in the class which is best for you.
