If you are looking for a cinema to attend in Brighton then you are truly spoilt for choice! From Cineworld at the marina, Odeon on West Street, The Duke of York’s and Duke's at Komedia.
The Duke of York’s picturehouse is one of the most loved in the UK, it has been running for over 100 years and holds the record for being the longest continuously running cinema in the UK. Not only is it known for being the oldest since 2012 it also holds the title for being the best in the UK!!
Once a year the cinema also plays host to the CineCity film festival which is run with Brighton University, the festival celebrates home-grown cinema as well as cinema from all over the globe!
In 2012 the Duke of York's joined with the Komedia, collaboration between Picturehouse and Komedia resulted in the Duke's at Komedia, a new two-screened Cinema. The Cinema is above the Komedia, Brighton’s favourite comedy club.
We recently took the opportunity to take some students to the Duke's at Komedia to watch “Starred up” which is a critically acclaimed British drama. The film was both very entertaining and also educational for our students who got the chance to exercise their English listening skills.
